"Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit"

3 John 1:2 (NLT)

Fasting Over Time

I’ve been a Christian for over twenty years now and fasting, along with prayer, was one of the first things I was taught when I initially began attending church. Over the years I have taken part in corporate fasts and individual fasts. I fasted for different reasons; to get closer to God, to hear Holy Spirit more, for breakthrough for myself and others, before I stumbled upon fasting for health. I say stumbled upon, because fasting for health wasn’t really a thing over a decade ago. We see articles about intermittent fasting in many places now, but in times past fasting was very much linked to religions and seen as something only people of faith undertook.

Biblical Health

Understanding biblical fasting from a health, as well as a holy perspective I believe was always God’s plan.

When we look at the type of fast Daniel undertook (Daniel 1:12), the foods he chose to eat were acceptable within Jewish law at that time. God had already spoken about this in the book of Genesis (Gen 1:30, Gen 9:3).

I am aware that we are no longer under that law regarding the foods we are to eat (Acts 15:28-29)

but I have recognised the wisdom in the doctrine of signatures (we'll speak more about that soon 😉) and reaped the benefits of eating foods that are mentioned in the bible.

God's Plan for Our Health

The blueprint for health was written thousands of years ago, and science now seems to be catching up!

It is not one or the other, but one and the other; holiness and health go hand in hand.
